“Lydia has taught me life lessons that
transcend the practice room.”
— Emilia, 17
Access to music education makes us more empathetic people, encourages critical thinking skills, and cultivates perseverance. Learning an instrument makes us better citizens of the world, and I empower my students to be well-rounded individuals inside and out of the practice room. I believe that every student has unique strengths and deserves to be met exactly where they are, and I promote curiosity, tenacity, and a healthy mindset in my studio.
My teaching philosophy
I have maintained a private studio since 2018 that primarily consists of advanced precollege students and adult amateurs, offering in-person and online lessons.
In 2024 I served on faculty at StringTime Summer Camp, where I was responsible for teaching private lessons, leading group classes and ensembles, and developing music history curriculum and listening activities for students aged 7-12.
I am a Teaching Artist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center through which I regularly lead group music classes in schools throughout NYC’s five boroughs and New Jersey.

"Lydia brings contagious energy and joy to my lessons no matter the time of day. I don’t think I have ever laughed so genuinely than when I am practicing cello with her and more than just pushing me to excel as a cellist, she has taught me life lessons that transcend the practice room."

“Lydia has been working with my young cellist for several years, and calling her a ‘godsend’ truly doesn’t do justice to the impact she has had. I am beyond thankful for the dedication and mentorship she provides my daughter. Lydia strikes the perfect balance of being firm yet always kind, fostering growth without ever being harsh. Her pedagogical influences come from some of the best in the cello world, including Melissa Kraut, Hans Jensen, and Natasha Brofsky, which reflects in her approach to teaching. Lydia is incredibly organized, methodical, and thoughtful, and we have so much to be grateful for in her guidance. Do I plan family trips around her schedule? Absolutely, without hesitation! She is an incredibly special human, musician, and teacher.”

Lydia’s dedication and passion for her music has made her a wonderful teacher of the cello. She is kind, compassionate, patient, and detailed in her instruction. These qualities are matched only by her exceptional talent as a cellist. I feel privileged to be one of her students.
